So long 2011...

Hard to believe we've said goodbye to another year. Always cause for reflections and resolutions for the year ahead. Some of our favorites pictured here we will always look forward to once again.

As we ready the Village with a fresh new look to welcome in 2012. Routines seem to be back in place and schedules have resumed with the hopes of productive, profitable, healthy, bliss filled months to come.

Lovers of all things old it's a welcome addition to see charming old china smitten with roses, silver plate trays with that perfect worn patina and a few pieces of furniture sure to brighten an room now blah with the packing up of the glitz and glitter of the holidays gone by.

Oooo-la-la's... always fun to bring on a new look to cherish

So happy that quad plate is still amongst customer favorites. If it could tell a stories of the many years its been around I'm sure we'd all be fascinated for hours.

Looking back to a few FAVORITES of 2011 ~ Country Living Fair in Atlanta was surely amongst the top of our list. Was great to visit with "The Tattered Cat", "The Painted Fern", "My Vintage Heart", "Sassy Trash" and others... marvel at the talent and creativity these ladies are blessed with.

We'll look forward to seeing these fabulous dealers and meeting new favorites this fall when the fair returns to Atlanta.

The much anticipated "Hag's Holiday Open House" still resonates in the forefront of our minds.

Such magical evenings of candlelight shopping chock full of vintage holiday wares, the best customers ever enjoying these evenings full of 'freshments and cider selecting perfect presents. Hardly able to believe the stops pulled out by our group of talented dealers. Every year tops the past... makes me wonder what this years event will hold.

When all is said and done... still enjoying each other and sharing laughs.

Christmas Traditions with a Christmas Book Giveaway

Having spent the last couple days baking holiday treats, making grocery list for our 27th Christmas Brunch,wrapping gifts for under the tree and packaging up special baubles for dear friends I've thought a lot about Christmas Traditions that each family shares. Along with all the normals we share- precious time with friends, hustle and bustle of shopping, the hectic days spent at Vintage Village, I also cherish cozy time spent with a good holiday book.

An all time favorite is from Atlanta author Mary Kay Andrews. Her Savannah Blues, Savannah Breeze and Blue Christmas novels are a story line all too familiar to the life any junker lives.

This makes the 6th Christmas that I've enjoyed "Blue Christmas" so, I'm guessing that too is now to be considered a sweet "hag" holiday tradition.

It's the week before Christmas, and antiques dealer Weezie Foley is in a frenzy to garnish her shop for the Savannah historical district decorating contest, which she intends to win. But suddenly things start to go missing from her display, and there seems to be a mysterious midnight visitor to her shop.
Still, Weezie has high hopes for the holiday—maybe in the form of an engagement ring from her chef boyfriend. But Daniel, always moody at the holidays, seems more distant than usual. Throw in Weezie's decidedly odd family, a 1950s Christmas-tree pin, and even a little help from the King himself (Elvis, that is), and maybe there will be a pocketful of miracles for Weezie this Christmas Eve.

Thrilled to hear from Meg at Tandem Literary who graciously sent Vintage Village signed copies of this "hag" favorite. Just like Weezie... it's the week before Christmas and we have one copy left to GIVEAWAY! Perhaps because so much of this year has been spent in hospitals, doctors offices and with appointments for this "hag" and her family this year. Every day is SPECIAL... but, Christmas time being extra special with the anticipation of time spent at HOME. There truly is, no place like home!

Sprinkles of the holidays are complete... now, just the best parts remain. Wrapping, baking, family, food & festivities!

"Hags" aren't all about brooms to ride, warts on noses or pointed black hats... they actually enjoy the twinkle of lights, patina of crusty wares, even the shine of mercury glass and old fashioned glass glitter. Vintage Annalee's & old well loved bottle brush trees, So, just a few glances to share around this "hags" holiday home.

I love this little Annalee Drummer Boy ~ an oldie but goodie nestled amongst a rabbits foot fern and bowl brimming with vintage mercury glass ornaments. Once there were enough older Annalee's to fill a 10 foot flocked tree, with a much smaller abode currently we've only kept our absolute favorites to frost necessary corners or complete holiday vignettes.

This "hags" collection of matte white pottery and old alarm clocks has been packed away to make room for "Mr. Hag's" Christmas in the City village. There's Yankee Stadium, Tavern on the Green, Rockefeller Center,

even Architectural Antiques Shop with little columns and salvage baubles you might find in the real antique store where many of my days are spent. Two family room wall shelves make up the villages home for the holidays above the happenings of holiday gatherings.

Brrr... and even a modest little collection of Snowmen. So cheery and neat... all but one who melted into a pretty bowl look forward each year to being part of the holiday festivities.

"Home for the Holidays" the perfect GIFT!

Our wish this holiday season is peace, happiness, health and of course much cheer with family & friends.

Holiday Seasons are so much fun. We're so glad to have a Valued Customer base that adores Holidays as much as we do. Our "halls are still decked" in mica, lights, glitter & charm. "Visions of Sugarplums" will surely dance in your head in this magical spot upstairs. Complete with a life size Barbie and half pint bed. Brings out the little girl in us all.

This darling flocked tree adorned with Vintage photos, old baubles and white lights is stunning.

"Tis the Season" for festive cheer ~ we've even got gold glitter signs perfect for added sparkle.

A collector of vintage Christmas lighting ~ Jonathan has a huge tree in his spot filled to the brim with old flocked, vintage glass ornaments and even a few jewel brites.

Several vintage blow molds are still fresh for the pickin' ~ this darling old candle is my favorite of this year selections.

That said... the 42 dealers at Vintage Village are hard at work "decking our halls", "spreading holiday cheer"

Country Living Fair Atlanta ~ Delightful!

Was delighted to be able to attend Country Living Fair Atlanta on Friday.

Was filled to the brim with inspiration and great to see some of our over the top talented dealer friends.

The Tattered Cat's spot pictured above was heaven.

Deborah had so much eye candy... I think she had been sewing for months non-stop.

The Painted Fern - Jocelyn's booth was terrific as usual and she always has the best smelling potpourri.

Sassy Trash - Nancy was incredibly busy. Her booth amazing!

We caught sight of her but her booth was covered with customers so not even a chance to say hello.

My Sisters Antiques with My Vintage Heart was splendid.

Both the pictures above are from their space.

Got the cutest little feather tree that is burlap wrapped from Susan.

Pamela Hall is another local talent ~ interior seamstress extraordinaire.

She does the most incredible snow folks and even sells her pattern.

Was a delightful day spent with my friend "Esther Polyester" from Vintage Village.

Beautiful weather, infinite inspiration and of course we came away with quite a few pretties.

"Esther" even won a gigantic wreath from Celebrating Home...

There are tons of pictures I haven't gotten to ~ so I'll have more from the County Living Fair coming soon.

For now, a special opening Sunday at Vintage Village so I'm off to work...

One "hags" staycation, rAiNy dAy and of course, County Living Fair this weekend in Atlanta. YAY!

Deciding that I needed some extra time to prepare necessities for the shop spaces with the upcoming holidays right around the corner. I planned this week as a "staycation" - at home (thanks to the participation of my family for remaining healthy and out of any hospital beds...) I've done just that. Now, Mr. Hag will tell you that "staycations" equal messes of glitter, mica, paint everywhere and unnecessary piles of what looks like Santa's Vintage Sleigh crashed into our small abodes walls.

Never mind that. It has been a very productive week of cleaning, pricing, packing, organizing and redoing. I cherish time spent at home doing anything but especially playing with chippy peely crusty rusty old things with a holiday flair.

Today's rain (which we need badly I must admit) meant a bit of gear changing for the "to do" list which is okay.

"Mr. Hag" ask prior to leaving for work if that meant that we'd have a few less "mounds of snow" when he arrived home since I'm truly doing all things inside today. I seldom make quite the messes that I seem to have made this week getting everything together at once but then it will be finished and ready for shop filling. He should be used to being married to a "junker" after all these years, right?

Complete and off the list include the mica pine cones, glitter snowballs (brrr...), painted & gussied up picture frames & great big vintage mirror. Lights on trees. A few surprises with old glitz and bling (very proud of these little secrets). 8 bins full of mostly old holiday charm. A few necessary errands for supplies. I love time spent in productive fashion. Now, let me assure you there is plenty more to do but very pleased with where I am on that list. Even baked the "Mr." a homemade chocolate cake with homemade chocolate icing.

I've discovered that Sebastian and Sadie live the life! If anything happens to land in one of their favorite cozy napping spots they act a bit miffed. Spoiled rotten that's what they are. Curious too, not a bag or box comes out that their noses aren't in as they are convinced I've hidden something they need somewhere in the mica. Today, they will get new chewies to keep them busy and entertained.

Before returning to the Village on Saturday we have both children here for dinner and a sleepover Friday night. Excited to say the least. It's been a while since we had both here at the same time. They've grown up - become teachers and varsity volleyball coaches. Enlisted in the Army to defend our country so busy they stay and although we talk almost everyday- having them here for an entire evening will be the ultimate treat!

The Country Living Fair returns to Atlanta for the second year this weekend. Thank goodness the rain will be done by then although we will have brisker temperatures which makes shopping more fun I think. Looking forward to seeing what all the talented dealers participating this year have up their sleeves. Good to catch up with some old friends that we used to see often at Lakewood. I'm certain it won't disappoint ~ inspiration in wheelbarrow fulls!

Come by and visit Vintage Village this weekend after the fair. We're open 10-6 Monday through Saturday with a special Sunday opening 12-6 p.m. October 23. We enjoyed meeting everyone last year in town for the fair and look forward to seeing them again this time.

A Few of Our Favorite Things...

I suppose no matter where you live some of the same favorites ring through in different seasons. In the South where we are some of our favorites are year long offerings that never seem to last too long at Vintage Village.

Our dealers search Antique Markets, Estate Sales, Thrift Stores and Auctions for these finds that are always popular and sought after by our valued customer.

Vintage Bling (shown above) can be used on everything from pillows to denim jackets.

They are also precious on pumpkins and holiday trees.

Sparkle they will no matter the time, but they seem especially fitting in the fall.

Old Vintage Bottles are always quick to sell in bunches. All shapes, sizes and colors

whether for use with a single posie, displayed empty or in odd numbered groups.

This reasonable item to collect always makes a statement.

Seasonal vintage finds are always on the top of our list at Vintage Village. Our valued customers adore them. Turkey platters and shakers, Vintage Christmas ornaments and Vintage Aluminum or Bottle Brush Trees, Old Valentines Candy Boxes. Offer such charm of days gone by and these sought after collectibles always bring a smile to our faces as

we reflect on days gone by.

Charming Silver and Quad Plate seems to be on everyone's list especially this time of year.
Beautiful in a display or impressive as just a single piece we all love the aged worn patina.

Mercury Glass is a personal favorite I use year round adding additional pieces especially during Christmas. I adore the sparkle and shine when mixed with well loved primitives, ironstone & transfer ware.

Mercury glass vases and candlesticks are amongst my top 5 list just because its so easy to change out the posies or candles being used in them for any season.

Baskets - any kind of old basket in any size.
Even rusty crusty locker baskets have become quick sellers as there are so many uses.
Everyone needs a good old basket or five.
I'm not a "less is more" sorta girl when it comes to things that have such high function.

Mr. and Mrs. Hamrick might be familiar faces if you have been in the area for any length of time. Why, Mr. Hamrick was my 7th grade teacher and he hasn't changed a bit!

Both retired educators they have always collected fabulous finds both vintage and charming new treasures and after years of storage decided to offer up some prized possessions in
"The Hamrick House".

Still dedicated to our youth, still substitute teaching you might also run into either Mr. or Mrs. Hamrick at one of our local schools. They are the sweetest people ever!

Mr. Hamrick will tell you that it's the "Mrs." that has the flare for decorating. If he adds fresh treasures in her absence and has to move anything he does his best to "put things back just like she had them". Everything is so pretty, displayed to the T yet offering such a relaxed comfortable feeling. Makes you feel right at home!

Offering a darling assortment of seasonal decor in this charming little building they have done so much work on really puts you in the mood for the upcoming holidays. Instant inspiration we call it. I can hardly wait to see the Christmas finds.

Who doesn't need a charming old primitive cupboard for all seasons?

There are several pieces out back that would be perfect additions for the busy

entertaining holidays.

Go when you have some time to reminisce... there are plentiful stories of days gone by, tales of how they purchased many of these old pieces and if you're lucky you'll get to hear about some of the children they taught over the years. Not all are true by any means... Mr. Hamrick might just tarnish the "Hags" reputation telling stories of "sweetness". Don't believe those, he is simply being nice in an exaggerated sorta way (ha...).

We're delighted to have these lovely folks in the cottage out back ~ you'll love visiting with them so make plans to stop by the Village on a Thursday or Friday and make sure you save some time for a trip to

"The Hamrick House".

Doesn't seem possible that it's really been 9 months.
Today's list included an updated fresh blog!
We are back in the swing - loving life - counting our blessings and happy to be back blogging.
Countless hospital stays, sick family members, doctor visits, treatments later finally a new blog post.

"Time" to catch up!

Just in "time" to enjoy these beautiful days with Fall on the horizon. Lots going on in our area in the coming months. Are you planning on going to the Country Living Fair here in Atlanta in October? We're excited to have that chance again and to see all those that visited with us at Vintage Village last year during the fair. Thrilled to get a chance to shop some local favorites & those dealers that travel from miles away ~ can't wait!

Speaking of the Village we are ghouly eerie with Halloween wares these days.

Both vintage and new items are leaving as fast as they arrive.
We're getting accustomed to our new shop hours Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

giving our dealers a much needed day to refresh, refill, replenish.

"Sadie" could get used to days spent with Mom at home, there certainly hasn't been many of those lately.

Much to do but loving every second!

Perhaps, when today's list is complete there will be some time to cuddle up on the couch with "Sadie Belle" to dive into the new issue of FLEA MARKET STYLE (It's a good one... our friends Danielle Polshak, Antiques in Olde Town, Artsy Fartsy Finds blog are all in this one. There might be more familiar faces, I haven't finished looking).

Christmas time is here...

Indeed... Christmas time is here. The Charlie Brown Christmas song theme rings softly

in our heads and you can't help reminiscing of childhood holidays gone by.

It's been a world wind since the 14th Annual Vintage Village Holiday Open House

and our brisk business is something we are all extremely grateful for. We are thankful for each of you, your continue patronage to the Village by far, our most valued asset.

A week of vacation to ready myself (and my findings) for the upcoming

Hags Holiday Open House

began today and of course, my favorite part "junkin" was the kick-off.

In orderly fashion while watching the Yankee's game last night (they won and kept me up late in the process) I completed my list of must haves for my search today.

Lakewood 400 bound early this morning I was able to come away with a mini-load.

Not one of my favorite places to shop ~ see, I was an original Lakewood gal ~ there every month, truck loaded every month, visits with my favorite out of town vendors every month and its still a missing piece of my heart to shop smaller markets in our area

that are just not the same.

That said, it was a pleasure to see Mike, Carolyn, JoAnn, Martha, Danielle, Jay & Lauri and the other vendors I purchased from who were all selling this weekend.

Great old rusty crusty chippy peely stuff ~ some pictured above but certainly not all.

Vintage Christmas corsages, green glass & even a vintage musical Santa ~ all lovely & packed with charm, a couple old metal staplers ( I still prefer using that type), a big bundle of ribbon & tea stained tags, a darling architectural piece that just right crusty, a fabulous surprise made from burlap that will be for sale and even a couple gifts for my buds.

It's too close to the Open House to show you everything ~there must be some secrets for the "big reveal" ~ November 17. I got the cutest thing for myself (which I don't do often) and yep, you'll want one too. Thank you, Chippy's Lauri ~ I will enjoy "it" all fall & winter.

Only one more shopping day at a favored "honey hole" planned for my week off ~ that will conclude the "frosting" necessary for my spaces for the upcoming holidays. I'll be hard at work all the other days ~ pricing, packing, polishing, painting, prepping

you know the drill. All those must do's.

I'll be checking in during the week for sure ~ there must be "break time" too!

Note to self... "Sadie Belle" loves Fuji apples ~ oh, yea...

she definitely helped herself to an apple taking little mouse size bites right off

the bakers rack shelf. Smart little monkey has it situated right between the rack shelf so

she could take perfect little quite bites. yUmMy!

Can you see her eye peering up at the camera after she got caught eating her healthy snack ~

playing possum as if she's taking a nice Sunday nap in Daddy's chair?

Sebastian on the other hand... the "perfect" Son. Is indeed napping ~
he never does anything mischievous. Nothing better than a productive day
at home ~ with laughs provided by the puppies.

An evening with DCHS Girls Varsity Volleyball what FUN

I'm sure that I've mentioned somewhere along the way that Lindsey, our daughter

the ultimate dream student, Thrasher Hockey Fan, Spanish major, High School Spanish Teacher is also the Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach at DCHS. There is no denying that she adores what she does ~ no denying the passion displayed every step of the way.

Being a bit of a journey from home I try to make at least one game each season and did just that on Tuesday evening. What fun! I was thrilled to have the opportunity to not only see the girls, take them each a little treat bag (even the Coach got a hAlLoWeEn treat bucket) and, get to see the team in action. This team features 9 Seniors who are playing at the high school level for their last season brought back so many memories of those last high school years for our children. Can't help but miss those times filled with anticipation of the next leg of their journeys.

DCHS girls varsity volleyball has been written about in the local papers and it was easy to see why. Even the coaches birthday was the headline of a recent article "Let them eat Cupcakes" ~ a reward for the team when they won the night before Lindsey's birthday and enjoyed cupcakes at the next practice to celebrate. Another article mentioned several Seniors on the team for their superior play ~ but that wasn't the focus on the court during the game I saw this week. They showed perfect sportsmanship, team work, communication, appreciation, and hustle. Easy to see that all of these girls have bright rewarding futures ahead whether returning for another season on the high school varsity court or pursuing their dreams in college and beyond. Sad, to be someone unknown sitting watching an exciting game and hear parents from the other team boosting and bashing. Even sadder to witness coaches showing unsportsmanlike conduct, screaming & yelling even to the point of little hissy fits. Really...!

Realizing that Coach Moon stops by her Mom's little blog every once in a while I thought she'd like to see her team here amongst those things vintage. It's no secret ~ I'm certainly proud of her many accomplishments (even those on the volleyball court with these talented athletic
high school girls).

For these special young lady athletes ~ I'm so glad I got to see you all in action.
I wish each one of you only the best not only in the remainder of this volleyball season & school year but in your next steps in the journey of your lives.

singing Happy Birthday tunes even before breakfast. This year was no exception. Sadie was a bit confused although amused none the less as she turned her head one way then another with the little nub wiggling.

Such a pretty boy... all distinguished and handsome at 5.

Rough & tumble like any other day with his Sister ~ Little Monkey Sadie

In celebration of Sebastian's birthday since there really wasn't a "paw-ty" just
song & dance, new dental chewies (their favorite)
and a breakfast of Solid Gold (we'll call that the eggs)

Sunday ~ a cELeBrAtIoN for Lindsey's Birthday as well as her 1st Wedding Anniversary that was back in July. Intended to be an anniversary gift but the timing more

appropriate for her bIrThDaY as we all had a super busy Summer.

Chili Dogs, Onion rings & even a PC (chocolate milk) were part of the festivities.

Followed by an afternoon at the Georgia Aquarium

what fun!

It was Steven and Lindsey's first trip to the Aquarium so that was special.

So much to see, do and appreciate.

Even Deep-O's 3-D theatre was a blast ~ If the funky glasses weren't enough, the look on her face when we were sprayed with water or the shots of air

during the show surely brought laughs.

It's good to give your iMaGiNaTiOn a day of play ~ and this is certainly the place

to do just that!

September 15 ~ Lindsey's 26th Birthday!

It's been a joy to have her as a little girl, watch her grow intellectually, marry and now

be a focused yet fun loving, determined high school Spanish Teacher &

Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach! So very proud of our daughter.

Happiest of Birthdays Lindsey!

Fall is in the air ~ Cooler morning temperatures ~ Leaves & Punkins...

It's beginning to look & better, feel like fall in Georgia. Little Sadie likes to get up early so no need for the alarm clock most mornings ~ we are out with the chickens (not really, although I think that'd be awesome) enjoying what promises to be a beautiful Fall season.

We've been extra busy around Vintage Village adding fresh vintage accessories sure to delight your heart. Witches, scarecrows, skeletons, spiders, autumn arrangements & those necessary touches of black are only a few. All we need now are some real pumpkins for buckets, baskets & of course, the porch.

Georgia Peaches make the best Cobbler...

make the best snack, jam, pie, cobbler.

Simply stated Yum!

Georgia is the Peach State and I know you've probably heard that folks travel from miles

around to get fresh peaches in our state for all their favorite recipes. Being no exception I can hardly wait for the local open air produce market I frequent to line those bushel baskets up that overflow with these pink flesh juicy fruits.

Nannie got a big basket this week before I made my produce market trip and shared with us.

Of course, David's first question "are you going to make a pie". I tried that once with the supposedly so easy homemade crust and was ready to cry once it was finished. For me crust are not an easy task... I vowed to pick up a store bought crust for my next try, not having one on hand yesterday I made a fresh peach cobbler.

I split the recipe into two baking dishes and calories of course and shared one with a dear friend recovering from recent surgery. Viola, a fabulous dessert.

The recipe I used is oh so simple so I decided to share.

Easy (Super Easy) Peach Cobbler

1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup butter
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking powder
3-4 cups fresh fruit peeled, sliced (peaches, cherries, blueberries etc)

Preheat Oven to 375. Place butter in bottom of deep pan and place in oven long enough to melt the butter. Sift flour, sugar & baking powder. Mix milk and vanilla and whisk into dry sifted ingredients to make a batter. Pour the batter over the melted butter. Add about 3/4 cup warm water and a teaspoon of sugar to the fresh fruit. Pour over the batter. DO NOT STIR. Bake for 30-40 minutes. The butter and dough ingredients will creep through the fruit for a crust on top.

Serve warm with or without Bluebell Vanilla Bean Ice Cream (our favorite)

If the pan I kept had enough left for breakfast you know what I would have had.
Really... luckily it didn't so I had some fresh cantaloupe with a cup of yogurt.

Georgia Peaches in season weighing heavy on peach tree branches. They come in a multitude of varieties that are harvested at various times throughout the summer. O'Henry freestone peaches are amongst my favorite so I will look forward to those overflowing baskets. Yes, another cobbler or maybe I'll make those into the pie my darling husband requested. You can be sure it won't have a homemade crust so hopefully I'll buy one that's a good runner up.

Around any Georgia home this time of year a bowl of fresh grown peaches.
Mine being no exception.

A Picnic Basket is a Wonderful Thing...

Summertime is the perfect time for a Picnic...

As I begin planning how to fill my basket this afternoon for our Vintage Village Dealer Cookout I couldn't resist reminiscing about those childhood memories of picnics with my family. I remember a trip once to Callaway Gardens in my Dad's Volkswagon Van (do you remember those?). Amongst our plans for that overnight trip ~ a picnic in the gardens. My Mom had the coolest old picnic basket (note to self, ask her if she still has it) and it was full to the brim with assorted sandwiches, homemade potato & macaroni salad, deviled eggs, a homemade dessert of cookies and lemonade punch. My Nana's creation mixing fresh brewed iced tea with lemonade. Fresh squeezed lemons of course. Funny, what memories become the fondest once you grow up. I'm certain that my offerings today couldn't possibly taste as good as those my Mother offered in her picnic basket and I'm certain they won't be the same contents but I will be baking a dessert and a Fresh Vidalia Onion Casserole that David loves to top his hot grilled burger ~ we'll see how many follow his example this evening.

Tracey Buxton over at "Notes for a Cottage Industry" probably says it best

in her May 2010 post about her love for Vintage Picnic Baskets. We sell these often at Vintage Village ~ something I'm sure that brings out the child in all of us ~ those precious memories make for the just right reason to start a collection for your corner.

I simply love the charm of these old metal picnic baskets hinged lids and usual wood handles. They come in a variety of patterns, sizes and shapes. I have a few antique & junque loving friends that have outstanding collections ~ so when I visit, a pause to enjoy them all stacked as if ready to feed an army if they were all filled.

The older wicker picnic baskets are just perfect too.
The perfect little hideaway for cherished magazines, puzzle books or your sewing needs (not mine of course as I wasn't blessed with the needle & thread gift) and always readily available happy to be opened as I'm sure they all have been countless times in their lives.

A picnic basket is a wonderful thing... enjoying friends, fun & fabulous food
well now that is a wonderful thing too. Looking forward to our cookout picnic in honor of some of the most talented & creative antique and collectible dealers in Metro Atlanta this afternoon.

It's a Hot One in Atlanta

Complete with a Parking Lot Sale on the asphalt today which always brings

out the bargain hunter in us all. I love junkin... we've opened up our sales to public participation when there is space and had 3 additional sellers today that had some cool stuff.

Homemade Brownies, Gingerbread, Pumpkin Bread too. Miss Willie had been baking so she

sold by the slice...YUM! It's a bit dangerous when she comes to our sales, I'm sure we don't want to talk about calories or fat grams but oh, well...

I shopped and worked a little inside... just an overall fun busy day and I left early. Bonus!

This Hag purchased a charming vintage small mantel (it's plain and lovely with all that old character) ~ a vintage pocket watch case, a rhinestone letter A pin, a lovely rose floral vintage curtain panel, some great quality silk roses tied up with lovely old lace, some trailer trash string lights that work of course... (probably my favorite thing, I have an idea... can you tell) I'll take pictures once I use them and share.

Yes, of course I forgot my camera... so these are some past sale pictures just to give you an idea of what our asphalt parking lot sales end up looking like... a junkers paradise for sure.

While sweating in the heat of the sun today my thoughts turned often to
of our Son, Clayton. He is currently stationed at an out of state Army Base
in Officer Candidate School. I'm certain that he is drenched multiple times daily by the sweat from all those runs and PT that I'm sure fill his days and nights. Further, I'm sure his Mom would have gained no sympathy from him merely shopping in the heat of the day. I'm so proud of him and all our service men & women, their service to our country equals freedom.

Bittersweet June Day...

A Bittersweet Day ~ The Fifth of June

6 years ago today my Dad passed away after spending the last 16 days of his

sweet life in the hospital ~ it was a tragic time and seems like only yesterday.

How can it be 6 years have passed.... Living life to it's fullest was something he

made a priority as you can tell from the picture above. Riding the motorcycle for

his Grandchildren ~ a good ole laugh at Lindsey's birthday party at Chuck E Cheese

many years ago.

Life isn't measured by the breaths you take ~

instead by those moments that take your breath away.

So, some much needed time at the Village for me. Some of you know that my Mom

recently spent 17 days hospitalized and ultimately underwent quad bypass surgery ~ 7 different hospital rooms in two different hospitals but is home on the mend and doing great so it was a pleasure for me to get some time to create today.

A new spot ~ full of new idea's, vintage treasures from my favorite honey spots

that just arrived Friday, some fresh posies & herbs added. The best part an early

morning chandelier sale to a regular customer that has a shop in Douglas, Georgia. Yay!

Time to spare taking a few snapshots of other vintage "pretties"

that you know won't last long. But for today, they are ripe for

the picking... come shop~! Is this a fabulous Vintage Dress or what...

perfect with the handmade vintage jeweled hat. Perfect for a summer wedding~!

A fabulous set of Cabbage Majolica plates & salad bowls would have

Peter Rabbit set for a feast ~ they sure would be pretty to dress up your

china cabinet this summer.

Red & White transfer ware is amongst my personal favorite ~ this pitcher is overflowing with vintage charm.

I have a fondness for Old Needlepoint ~ this stool slip covered with a great needlepoint cover in brown with roses is shabby at it's best.

Vintage Doll furniture always has a way of reminding us of our childhood's.

Pretty Black & White Vintage Children's Photo's with an adorable lamp & mirror as the base.

A Needlepoint chair cushion ~ do you have a chair it would fit?

Shabby Vintage Shelf in pink to showcase a vintage rose yard long in a great vintage frame.

Oh, so shabby 3 piece porch set. Table & 2 chairs ~ even a magazine to read while

enjoying your morning coffee.

Fabulous vintage blue cupboard with old glass knobs.

Old ladders are so nice for the screen porch ~ they are great for potted herbs or posies.

Cement pieces always sell fast. I think everyone likes to have a few for outside decor.

The best Red & White China Cabinet I've seen in a while ~ small but perfect.

We'll look forward to seeing you at Vintage Village as much as I've missed being

able to blog... now, that's a ton.

Happy Mother's Day

Wishing all Mom's a day full of splendor.

Mine will be spent gratefully with my Mom who has

been in the hospital the past 14 days and ultimately undergone

♥ heart bypass surgery. It's no secret that Nannie is one of my biggest hero's in life ~

she is the strongest little lady I know. With her faith that could move mountains, determination of a lion, unsurpassed compassion, unconditional love, unwavering support,

heart ♥ of gold... I could continue forever, It will be a great day we will share.

My mom is a never ending song in my heart of comfort, happiness, and being.

I may sometimes forget the words but I always remember the tune.

A Turtle Village at my friend Lee's

It's a Turtle Village

So often I blog about Vintage Village, not today ~ It's Lee's Turtle Village.

My friend Lee is one of the many talented dealers at Vintage Village ~

With the help of her lovely children they've redone the Turtle Village in her yard this Spring.

3-D now has a fancy village indeed. A Waterfall ~ Lettuce varieties to munch on ~ Places to hide ~ What more could a cute little turtle want?

I always love seeing what friends do creative in their yards each Spring.

Lee has outdone herself with the Turtle Village.

We've had some fun planting (even a vegetable garden again this year)

& getting our patio spot pretty again this Spring.

Pretty weather inspires the creativity in each of us.

A Little Blog Makeover & Our Newest Addition ♥

A Little Blog Makeover...

It's Springtime so I had a few minutes this morning to make some changes

to this little blog... Do you like?

Peaceful Polka Dots ~ Soothing Colors.

Just what I needed.

Wednesday before last I was working on the dreaded paperwork and wrapping up

taxes (necessary evil) and David had the day off so he was running errands. After

being gone for several hours he called to say "be ready in 20 minutes, I'm on my way to pick you up"... sure, my immediate thought was what is he up to? He did just that and Sebastian, our little white guy went with us. Driving in the direction of my Mom's I noticed and commented ~ he replied, yes, she's going too. Once at her house everyone got out of the Yukon, Sebastian too and went around back to see Nannie sitting on the porch. Sebastian was already enjoying his romp in her big backyard when I rounded the corner on the way to her screen porch. Nannie wasn't by herself on the porch ~ this darling little black miniature schnauzer was watching with delight her little nub wiggling away. Standing there stunned for several minutes David finally said "Happy Birthday a little early". My birthday isn't until the end of April and it was still March. Oh, my goodness ~ a little princess for my birthday. Needing a name so she could be called something other than puppy ~ I tossed around a few cute names like "Cricket", "Sophie", and then "Sadie" she turned her head sideways looking at me when "Sadie" was said so there you have it.

"Sadie" Belle ~ our newest addition

a sweet talented friend from Vintage Village, Lisa made the cutest video of Sadie on a

recent visit to the shop. (Of course, she goes to work with me sometimes.)

Thanks a Million Lisa ~ we have enjoyed her video so much.

I've never uploaded a video on blogger so I sure hope it works.

Sadie was the runt of her litter so she has tiny features ~ she weighs 5 pounds, 14 ounces. Will probably be 10-12 pounds when she's grown. Is feisty as can be, so sassy & energetic. She is getting along well with Big Brother, Sebastian although I think he was pretty convinced she was just visiting for a little while. I must say the Best Birthday Gift ever... David is the greatest.

I look forward to having some free moments to catch up on the blog & see what all of you are doing in this beautiful weather.

Winter Snow in Atlanta ~ February 2010

Atlanta Snow ~ February 2010

Was working at Vintage Village yesterday afternoon when the snow began ~

beautiful white flakes that covered the tree's & surrounding roofs in no time.

The drive home was gorgeous ~ the park across from our home had snowy tree tips

with the grass a blanket of snow.

Simply tranquil...

The bluebirds were filling their little bellies with suet so they
would stay warm overnight.

The snow continued to fall for hours.

Our Winter Wonderland

This morning ~ Sunshine showcases the bright white surroundings.

Atlanta Snow... What a glorious picture.

4 -5 inches fell in our area.

Working today at the village ~ we are opening at lunchtime.

The promise of more winter snow, ice in Atlanta the next couple days.

A Nannie Day...

Some of my favorite days are those spent with my Mom.

Today, a trip we try to make about once a month.

The Forum

One of our favorite places to do a little shopping at some the best places.

Lunch at Jason's Deli

They have the best salad bar, deli sandwiches, soups

Little gingerbread muffins...

I'm hungry already.

Super H ~ We stop there on the way home. The best produce, bakery, fish market...

We always come away with a buggy full of delicious finds.

Trader Joe's is an always stop on our Forum shopping days. Chocolate croissant's, Lava Cakes,
fresh flowers, fabulous cheese... they have most anything. Today, Valentines treats are on my list. I'm sure they will have a great selection.

And all at great prices.

Wishing you a happy Tuesday. Ours will be a full day of shopping.
I enjoy all days with Nannie ~ when we are together shopping,
there's no telling what we might get into.

February 2 ~ Groundhog Day. Close to where we live General Beauregard Lee

makes his predictions early each February 2. Isn't his Southern Mansion charming?

A lavish addition to Beau's white-columned Southern mansion is another major surprise. He owns an architectural water fountain; a postal box; a granite monument; a monogrammed lawn marker, sundial, doormat and a satellite dish that allows him to watch PBS nature specials. He has further enjoyed a broad jump and high diving board which readied him for The Olympics. It is alleged that Beau’s Official Mansion also includes a laptop computer for his prodigious correspondence and a Wine Cellar to recover from the

labors of His National Holiday~!

General Beau did not see his shadow when he emerged from his mansion at 7:35 a.m.

in the rainy 40 degree Atlanta weather. An early spring~ Yippee~!

I'm already making plans for the 2010 Hag Patio where blooms will abound.

I can hardly wait to sit there sipping morning coffee,

watching the birds feast on breakfast & feeding the fish.

Gone to the Birds...

Gone to the Birds….

As I sit this morning sipping a cup of hot coffee I’d like to share with you
the joy of one of my hobby’s. I already hear the little peeps and chirps.

I filled the feeders with a new selection of suet and seeds earlier.

Not just in the winter, but year round I feed the birds.

This hobby is surely an entertainment asset that rewards you with many priceless hours of happiness and fulfillment from these feathered friends.
Winter is a great time to watch the different types of birds at the feeders.
Woodpeckers are busy eating mouthfuls of suet.
As the chirping and peeps continue…

I have a great resource close by ~ Wild Birds Unlimited. They have assisted in creating a space saving fence mount bird feeding station for my patio that enables me to enjoy the frenzy of feathered friends that visit constantly.

A mesh feeder for peanuts ~ a double suet/dough cage to offer this high energy treat during the winters cold months ~ a feeder for safflower seeds that the cardinals, nuthatch & titmice adore but squirrels don’t like~ a thistle seed cylinder for the finches ~
a feeder cup for grapes, oranges or even sunflower seeds.
Even a special place for the hummingbird feeder once the weather warms and they return.

Water is readily available from my patio pond ~

the fish don’t seem to mind when the birds land on the side for a little drink.

Remember, the little fish that occupy the patio pond ~

they are doing great in this cold weather.

Have even had some ice on their abode that a deicer melted.

Now, back to the birds… This winter I’ve enjoyed daily visits from nuthatches, wrens, finches (even gold finches), hairy woodpeckers, downy woodpeckers (they are both among my favorites to watch), black crowned chickadees, brown thrashers, cardinals (especially females), bluebirds that have actually enjoyed the fruit suet’s, a very large red bellied woodpecker, tufted titmouse and sparrows.

The birds that visit the feeders is different in the winter than in the summer ~ so, alternating foods helps to attract species that are not seen otherwise with traditional seeds.

Soon, it will be time offer meal worms for the busy nesting bluebirds. Nectar will attract the fascinating hummers. Fruits are also a favorite for many bird species so I will try grapes & oranges to see who stops by to feast on those.

Simple really, fascinating obviously.

Why not try a bird feeder in your yard the rewards far surpass the work.

I will continue to enjoy feeding my feathered friends with their appreciative

chirps, peeps & song.

Having a Son in the Military

I received this email from a girlfriend at Vintage Village

it was quite touching ~ worthy to share.

There is a huge rock near a gravel pit on Hwy 25 in Iowa.

For generations, kids have painted slogans, names, and obscenities on this rock,
changing its character many times.

A few months back, the rock received its latest paint job,

and since then it has been left completely undisturbed.

It's quite an impressive sight.

I thought the flag was draped over the rock, but it's not.

It's actually painted on the rock too.

The very talented artist Ray "Bubba" Sorensen.

Not being mall shoppers that much we took the recommendation of friends and family to try this restaurant for David's birthday. Located at the Mall of Georgia its convenient and offers something for everyone.

David chose the Cafe Lamb Shank ~ listed on the Fresh Seasonal Features

served with homemade mashed potatoes & asparagus ~he enjoyed every savory bite.

I selected the Seared Sea Scallops with Butternut Squash Ravioli.

Simply fabulous.

The atmosphere is charming ~ and the menu is tremendous. They have many breakfast

choices that are served all day. We both pondered the Crab & Avocado Omelet ~

jack cheese, tomatoes, scallions topped with bacon & asiago cream sauce.

That will be a must have in a next trip to Mimi's.

Today, Mimi's operates in 22 states where they are

known for our warm, attentive hospitality, delicious fresh cooked meals and quaint cafe charm. Mimi's is open all day, with tasty breakfasts, lunches and dinners that feature fresh, quality ingredients with seasonal offerings and healthy options.

Look up Mimi's cafe online ~ they have a E-Club you can register and receive a free breakfast.

Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus.

The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.You may tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart.

Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real?

Ah, VIRGINIA, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding. No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.
